Family, Friends, & Associates

This category consists of everyone else you want to notify about your recent marriage and new name. The groom will probably want to notify some of his contacts. Any children who were brought into the marriage should have their records revised.

After the wedding there may be people who did not receive a formal wedding invitation or announcement that you would like to notify about your recent marriage and new name.

A personal letter on stationary of your choosing can help others know about your new situation. Other options are email and telephone.

You may want to mention your other new details such as any change in contact information, your spouse's name, any children's names, etc.

Your spouse will probably want to notify some of his contacts about his recent marriage including his employer, insurance companies, and health care providers. He will also want to update his emergency contacts

The Groom’s Records letter is one way the groom can inform others about his new marital status. A photocopy of the marriage certificate may accompany the letter for verification.

Note: If the groom changed his name he will need to follow the same procedures as a bride as described in this kit.

If you or your spouse have brought children into the marriage their records should be updated to reflect your new name and marital status. You may want to add your spouse to their emergency contacts.

The Children's Records letter can be used to update a child’s school, activity, and medical records and revise their emergency contacts.

Tip: The Children's Records letter can be used by both bride and groom.
